For three weeks each January, the Guild has a range of exciting and creative day and weekend classes!
Whether you are interested in Weaving, Spinning, or any of the Guild’s special interest areas, we have something to interest all artisans and crafters. Summer school classes are delivered by our amazing Guild members showcasing years of experience. Why not come along and learn something new?
**Rigid Heddle Weaving Clinic** with Michele Fountain
6th & 7th Jan 10:00AM – 3:00PM
-Brush up on your weaving or warping technique or never seen a loom before – this class is for you. Ideas will be provided if you are not sure what to create.
**Crocheted Spirals** with Kaye Adolphson
8th Jan 10:00AM – 3:00PM
-Experiment with spirals using up to four different colours at once together with surface stitching to embellish and extenuate your work.
**Dye Fun with a Frypan** with Jan Brown
9th Jan 10:00AM – 3:00PM
-Have fun with ways to dye fleece, tops and yarn using an electric frypan.
**Inkle Weaving** with Sylvia Mason

-Students learn basic threadings, pick-up patterns and more.

-Play, experiment and explore fabric printing with simple stencils to make a range of prints, backgrounds and images
**Colourful Stitched Basket Workshop** with Vicki Fowler

-A fun, colourful basketry workshop coiling with blanket stitch to create a small colourful basket using a variety of fabrics, coloured raffia, wool and threads. No two baskets are alike

-Learn how to measure weft yarn to design and locate patterns in your weaving. Learn how to make your own resist-dyes weft yarn. Experiment with your own resist-dyes yarn to create simple patterns.
**Knitting Outside the Square** with Liz Langford

-Be inspired to look at knitting in a different way. Many examples of ‘knitting outside the square’ will be shared. Create a small neck piece using different stitches and techniques
**Woven Tapestry** Refining your skills with Joy Smith
15th – 16th Jan 10:00AM – 3:00PM)
-This class is to help refine or add to the skills of those who have learnt the basics of woven tapestry. We will explore technical aspects that can help with a more professional finish.
**Shibori & Resist Dyeing for Woven Fabric** With Roz Slade
17th Jan 10:00AM – 3:00PM
-Create geometric & organic patterns on handwoven & commercial fabric using Shibori techniques, batik and Ori-Nui stitching. You will learn basic and more advanced techniques to create dyed pattern on cloth with an indigo dye vat
**Art Yarns with Janet Knoop** Add a little flamboyance to your spinning

-Janet Knoop will take you through techniques that add texture and interest to your yarns. A basic knowledge of spinning is required as well as a ‘warm relationship’ with your spinning wheel.
**Weaving with Colour** Weave a colour blanket with Janet Gray

-Weave a colour blanket and discover how colour interaction is affected by weave structure, yarn size, texture and depth of colour; all influencing the final result
**Sheer Delight- Transparent Weave Inlay Techniques** Explore with Gerlinde Binning

-Two-day weaving workshop exploring design elements using transparent weave inlay techniques
**Sewing for Hand-woven Fabrics** with Pat Jones

-Have you ever thought you would like to sew your hand-woven fabric but have yet to try? Or perhaps you are looking for ways to improve your current efforts. Come along and get expert help with Pat Jones as she shares her tips and tricks to working with hand-woven fabric.
**Felted Illuminations** with Pam Hovel

-Create a variety of 3D illuminated felted vessels. The light produced is whimsical in appearance and would be suitable for dining room table or for mood lighting use. You will learn how to make a template to suit your chosen form and how to construct sturdy, well finished and unique vessels suitable for illumination.
**Spinning and Dyeing Cotton** with Joan Ruane

-American cotton spinning expert, Joan Ruane, is travelling from her home in the U.S. to present this one-off workshop. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity!
**Fancy Wrapped Rocks**
with Anne Newton
30th Jan 10:00AM – 3:00PM
-Rock amulets are based on Japanese basketry knots and other basketry techniques. They may be purely decorative or used as a contemplative focus for meditation.
Historically, amulets were sacred, precious and imbued with healing powers. Learn to decorate a rock with a variety of materials and a variety of decorative basketry knots and techniques.
Icelandic double weave with Eef Van Riel

– Direct warping using an inkle loom, learning the Icelandic double weave technique to make a band with patterns
