General Information

The sixteen non-residential studios located at Gertrude Contemporary are available to early practice and mid-career artists. The studios have an average size of approximately 40 square metres.

Gertrude Contemporary will be relocating from its current premises at 200 Gertrude Street in mid 2017 to a new premises currently in negotiation. The new architecturally designed premises will host our sixteen studios as well as new exhibition spaces. The transition to the new building will prioritise the fitting out of the studio complex with minimum disturbance to artists involved in our Studio Program.

As part of the two-year tenure within the program, artists will have the opportunity to present a solo exhibition within the artistic program of our satellite space Gertrude Glasshouse, designed by architectural practice Sibling. Studio Artists also participate in the annual Gertrude Studios exhibition, and benefit from a program that connects their work with leading Australian and visiting international curators and artists, gallerists and collectors. Gertrude Studio Artists will also have preferential access to Gertrude’s Public Programs, residency partnerships, developing commissioning initiatives and professional development opportunities.

The subsidised monthly rental is $280.* Tenants are required to pay one month’s rent in advance, and a bond, which is equivalent to two month’s rent. *Subject to change. GST inclusive.
