Community Advisory Committee
Membership Opportunity

The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) is currently seeking expressions of interest from members of the community who are interested to join our Community Advisory Committee in a voluntary capacity as part of strengthening our community engagement and community partnerships,.

We welcome members from Melbourne’s diverse communities, across cultures, faiths, ages and backgrounds, special interests and areas of expertise.

Background:
GMCT was established in 2010 and currently manages 18 cemeteries and memorial parks across Melbourne’s north, east and west.

In accordance with the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003, the GMCT Community Advisory Committee (CAC) was established. Membership is currently made up of Trust members and community volunteers with a connection to our cemeteries and an interest in the important role they play as part of our communities and as places of history and heritage.

The CAC has two main roles: to represent community and consumer views on all areas of cemetery operation and to share industry, cultural and general information of interest and relevance to the GMCT. Further information about the role of CAC can be found in the government guidelines: [http://www.health.vic.gov.au/cemeteries/downloads/cac_guidelines.pdf] Members should have the ability to reflect on and present community issues, rather than focussing on personal concerns.

The Committee meets quarterly and members are provided with terms of reference, agendas and minutes. The Committee is supported by GMCT and membership is voluntary and unpaid.

The GMCT Community Advisory Committee provides interested members of the community with a unique opportunity to assist GMCT to achieve its mission to “Provide the final care for your loved ones, with dignity and kindness”.

Please contact for further information and an application form. We are also looking for more individuals and groups to approach with this opportunity; if you have any ideas who to contact, or could pass this information on, that would be much appreciated.
