Centre of Visual Art – Panel: Gender and Indonesian Contemporary Art

Wednesday 28 November, 12–1pm

Join artists Elia Nurvista, Nuraini Juliastuti and art historian Wulan Dirgantoro for a dialogue on gender and contemporary practice in Indonesian art. Introduced by Dr Danny Butt.

Areas of discussion will include how the Reformasi of 1998 has shaped the formats of women’s practices within contemporary art, in relation to other historical frameworks. We will open with representation in artists initiatives, the art management sector, and how women’s issues leak into the artworks. We will move beyond representation to talk about how everyday patriarchy structures the local art scene and lastly discuss the different strategies (practiced or imagined) used to make room for conceptualising women’s issues in contemporary Indonesian art.

Hosted by the Centre of Visual Art, VCA and Buxton Contemporary.

The Makers & Shakers Conference

The Makers & Shakers Conference will explore where the maker movement has come from, where it’s at, where it’s heading, and what that means for your creative business. Whilst there are plenty of generic business conferences and workshops to choose from, they rarely are tailored around the issues and experiences of the emerging handmade maker scene.

For one special day, The Makers & Shakers Conference will offer interactive Q&A panel discussions with successful makers, branding, retail and social media gurus, and maker-movement academics that will offer usable insights and tools that will help you create, sustain and scale your creative business.

The conference will be held at Deakin Edge at Federation Square in Melbourne, and we’ve curated experts and inspiring speakers including Marcus Westbury, Emily Green, Tiff Manuell, Laura Blythman, Maryanne Moodie, Kylie Lewis, Kate Berry, Kirbee Lawler, Madeleine Dore, Kelly Thompson, Sina Klug, Professor Susan Luckman and Dr Kath WIlson.

On offer to attendees too is seriously yummy food and drinks (all included with the ticket!), and we’ll create the optimal conditions for learning, knowledge exchange, community building, and fun.

Come and mingle with other like-minded creatives and invest in the future of your creative business (and yourself)!

All attendees will receive a FREE COPY of Kylie Lewis’ book The Leap Stories: Intimate Interviews On Overcoming Fear, Choosing Courage Over Comfort And Designing A Fulfilling Career’.

Spots are strictly limited so register now and take advantage of the super-early bird price! There is a link in our bio to register/purchase or go to:
